Management positions
The university management consists of the Rectorate, Senate, and University Council. At the University of Vienna in 2026, the Rectorate and University Council have equal representation of both genders, while the proportion of women in the Senate has increased to just under three-quarters. Of the three chair positions (Rector, Chair of the Senate, Chair of the University Council), two out of three are currently held by men. In terms of academic management positions, the proportion of women among deans and center directors has risen in recent years, with the highest proportion of men found among institute and department directors. The proportion of women in administrative management positions is consistently high, but drops to 27% at the highest level of service facility management (DLE), which is below the proportion of women in scientific management positions.
