Students by study programs
At the University of Vienna, study programs for bachelor’s and master’s/diploma studies are grouped into 37 directorates of studies (SPL), while the doctoral/PhD programs are distributed across 18 SPLs.
Significantly more women study humanities, cultural studies, social sciences, and life sciences. In the SPL of computer science/business informatics, physics, mathematics and sports science the percentage of women in bachelor's and master’s/diploma programs is below or around 40 %. Apart from mathematics, this is also true for students in the teacher education program.
The proportion of men is below or around 20% in translation studies, education, nutritional sciences, and philological studies.
The situation is different in the doctoral programs, where the proportion of women is above 60 % in four SPLs and below 40 % in six SPLs.
